Historic PreservationBeing located in our Nation's Capital, our chapter has a unique opportunity to honor the rich history of our country. Our most significant contribution to historic preservation is our chapter's maintenance of Boundary Stone SE #7, one of the original stones that was placed in the 1790s to mark the boundary of the District of Columbia. We also often recognize outstanding efforts of individuals in the area of historic preservation through awards and monetary support.

EducationWe are passionate about supporting education through programs, contests, and awards. Each year, our chapter recognizes a District of Columbia area high school student for their outstanding volunteer service and citizenship. At McKinley Tech High School, our members sponsor a book club to promote literacy. We also host an American history essay contest for elementary and middle school students. Additionally, we promote the many scholarships and classroom grant opportunities that DAR has. Beyond the District of Columbia, our chapter members support six DAR schools across the nation with donations of time, money, and supplies.

PatriotismThe ancestors of our members fought for the freedom of our country, and since our founding, we have continued to be driven by a love of our country. This love is shown most frequently through support of veterans and active duty military. Each year, we gather at the local VA to play bingo with residents, we visit the WWII memorial to greet veterans in the District of Columbia with an Honor Flight, and we place wreaths at Arlington Cemetery with Wreaths Across America. To support our active duty military, we create and send care packages - filled with personal care items, phone cards, letters, and cards. Last year, we even sent American flags to troops to fly overseas and send to loved ones as cherished moments.
